9 Ways to Prevent Erectile Dysfunction

9 Ways to Prevent Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) becomes more common as men age, but it is not normal. It is best to take precautions when minor symptoms of ED arise. Here are 9 ways you can prevent ED:

1. Maintain a healthy weight

Being overweight can cause many health problems, including type 2 diabetes, which can cause nerve damage throughout the body. ED is caused if diabetes affects the nerves that supply blood to the penis.

2. Avoid high blood pressure and high cholesterol

High cholesterol or high blood pressure can damage blood vessels, including those that transport blood to the penis, which can lead to ED.

3. Watch what you eat

A diet that’s bad for a man’s heart is also not good for their ability to have erections. The same foods and eating habits that can cause heart attacks can also impede blood flow to the penis. The blood flow is needed for the penis to become erect. Diets that include very fatty foods, fried, and processed foods can contribute to decreased blood circulation throughout the body, which may lead to ED.

4. Do not drink alcohol

Mild or even moderate alcohol consumption is not bad for erectile function, but heavy drinking can cause liver damage, nerve damage, and other conditions that can interfere with male sex hormone levels, which can lead to ED.

5. Exercise regularly

Good lifestyle habits such as eating healthy, running, swimming, and other forms of physical exercise have been shown to help prevent ED.

6. Keep track of testosterone

Even in healthy men, testosterone levels often begin falling sharply around age 50. Every year after age 40, a man’s testosterone level typically falls about 1.3%. This causes symptoms like a low sex drive, moodiness, lack of stamina, or trouble making decisions which can ultimately lead to erectile dysfunction.

7. Avoid anabolic steroids

Anabolic Steroids, which are usually abused by athletes and bodybuilders, can shrink the testicles and sap their ability to make testosterone.

8. Avoid Smoking

Smoking cigarettes or any other substance can harm blood vessels and restrict blood flow to the penis. Nicotine makes blood vessels contract, which can reduce the blood flow to the penis, causing erectile dysfunction.

9. Don’t rely on Kegels

Kegel is one form of exercise that doesn’t help in ED as it involves repeatedly contracting and relaxing the muscles in the pelvis.

Though these ways help to prevent Erectile Dysfunction, some men get ED without having any disrupted lifestyle habits. In these cases, doctors often prescribe them ED medications such as Suhagra, Vidalista, and Tadalista.
